The color and style of the clothing help to express the mood of the dance moves that are displayed; this is why the clothing is important when it comes to Classic dance.

During the 15th century, Domenico da Piacenza taught the nobles how to perform Classic ballet dance in the court rooms and at special events such as weddings. As time went on this form of dancing changed; there were more moves added and a slight altering in the way the dancers dressed. The floor length skirts were common to be worn in ballet during the earlier years, but as time went on tutus were worn because they made it easier for girls and women to dance in.

Nothing has changed too much with the way men dressed for this style of Classic, besides the clothing updating bit; but men have always worn tights just like women which made it easier for them to move in.
